Booker T. Washington Installation at the Dallas Museum of Art
November 21, 2008 – May 31, 2009
The Dallas Museum of Art invited community partner Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (BTWHSPVA) to contribute an installation to the Center for Creative Connections, a new multi-generational education space. Printmaking students from BTWHSPVA studied the work of artist Janine Antoni who created Lick and Lather, a sculpture featured in the Center’s Materials and Meanings exhibition. Exploring ideas about the self and identity—ideas similar to what Antoni explores in her work—each student then created self-portrait prints based on archetypes using medium-density fiberboard (MDF), steel, plastic, and fabric. www.DallasMuseumofArt.org
